A HYMN FOR JUDICA (Saint John 8. 46-59)

“I AM” IN THE FLESH, THE ONLY FACE OF GOD

Text: Saint John 8. 46-59
Words: Jay W. Watson
Meter: 12,11,12,11
Possible Tune: TLH # 568, Kremser, 1626  (but not really L JW)

Christ then did ask the Jews why they did not assent
To His Fathers Words, the reason He was sent
The Scribes and Pharisees sought to convict The Son
Being not of God His truths they would hear none

His foes accused Him of being Samaritan
Filled with a devil and speaking lying sin
Christ rebuked these men for thus The Father doubting
Who slanders Son, The Father too is striking

Twas no prideful glory by the Lord ever sought
To beloved Father all honor was brought
For those who keep the sayings spoken by Truth’s breath
Live by Grace through faith and never taste of death

Even Father Abram is true seed of our Lord
Christ the Logos Son ever begotten Word
The Jews rejected Jesus branding Him a fraud
As I AM stood in flesh only face of God

We rejoice to behold the Trinity in One
In Christ’s Person and Life our vict’ry is won
When done upon the cross His sacred head did bow
Now feast with Him Who sits on our altar now
