Merciful Manifestation to Magi: A HYMN

I wrote this hymn yesterday so it's too late for me to use it tomorrow (which I probably would NOT do anyway).  I dedicate it to my good friend the Rev'd Fr. Michael Penikis, whose own constant and prodigious efforts at hymn writing are a constant inspiration.

HEAR THE QUEST

[Tune: Galilean]

Hear the quest of Magi searching/ in the days of King Herod
With the star these Eastern Sages/ made their long hard trip abroad
Priests and Scribes King Herod asketh/ such event would happen where
Bethlehem out of Judea/ there it was, the Maid would bear

In the Hebrew writings Holy/ by the words of God’s Prophets
Out of thee a Prince would blossom/ to atone for all man’s debts
Up and then the wise men parted/ till the star came to its rest
With joy finding infant Jesus/ resting at His Mother’s breast

They fell down in prostrate worship/ gifts of gold and sweetest myrrh
But He gives the greatest treasure/ His true Blood and Body pure
Gold of grace Messiah giveth/ in His life and works we boast
Manifesting our salvation/ Father + Son and Holy Ghost
