An ASH WEDNESDAY Hymn

I originally set my words to the LW tune (# 126) for At the Lamb's high feast we sing (along with the final coda phrase of 'O Hosanna',) but a trusted advisor suggested that an Ash Wednesday hymn should not be as 'festive' as that melody is...so I have now attached the words to good old TLH # 121 - - -  JW

AS OUR BROWS ARE MARKED

Words: Jay Watson 2013
Tune: Culbach, Heilige Seelenlust, Breslau, 1657
[TLH # 121]
Meter: 7, 7, 7, 7

As our brows are marked this day
Our guilt doth Messias pay
He has signed us with His cross
Cleanses us from trespass dross

We give alms to those in need
Fasting from meat, wine, and greed
Time now praying for the flock
Drink we water from the Rock

Christ this Lent lifts off our load
Put us on salvation’s road
He has draped us with His fleece
Feeds us with His flesh our peace

Three in One and One in Three
Our hearts now do glory thee
Father, Son, and Spirit blest
In Thy Sabbath we now rest
