Ode to the "Innocents"

 

INNOCENT IN THE INNOCENT ONE

Where are Mother Rachel’s children?   

Slain by the swords of cruel men
Where are Bethlehem’s infant boys?
Titled “Innocents” by their Church

They rest safe without guilt or stain

Grasped firmly in His wounded palms
Carved in His flesh; scribed in His Book
Mystery past understanding
All tears and sorrows wiped away

Eat and drink with these young lads

Ever-kings who sit with angels
Join their praise to the Redeemer
Behold Peace flowing from His altar
Celebrate with these enthroned souls
The Innocent Lamb’s death for all
