Another Attempt at Hymn Writing

For those on the historic 1-year lectionary here is a short hymn for next Sunday (the 12th Sunday after Trinity; Saint Mark 7. 31-37)  - - -   JW

JESUS NOW EPHPHATHA CRIES

Words: Jay W. Watson, 2014
Tune: Neander, Joachim Neander, 1680

8 7 8 7 7 7

Leaving Sidon comes the Savior
Through the coasts and to the sea
Mute delivered broken sinner
Hoping that His touch would free
Lord with victim stepped apart
Fingers spit Redeemer’s start

Touching sighing Word thus proclaimed
Ears to hear and speech to ring
Though imploring silence maintained
Gospel can but shout and sing
The crowd beyond all amazed
Chanting His merciful Grace

Bringing heaven in this service
Christ for you in bread and wine
His forgiveness heals deafness
Paschal Word on which you dine
In the bloody Lamb baptized
Jesus now Ephphatha cries
